United Way 9-Week LGBTQ Equity Challenge

We’re so excited to welcome you to week 1 of the 9-Week LGBTQ+ Equity Challenge! This challenge is designed for those who want to deepen their knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community. To learn more about the challenge, please visit our website.

If you have not completed the brief anonymous pre-challenge assessment, please do so here.

The purpose of the first week of the LGBTQ+ Equity Challenge is to familiarize you with some of the definitions, terms, and language surrounding the LGBTQ+ community. This week’s materials will be a great resource as you work your way through the challenge. You can review all past weeks on our challenge website. If you come across terms, definitions, or concepts that you need a refresher on, refer back to this week and its materials!

Please note that we will not be able to cover everything related to the LGBTQ+ community.

United Way 21 Week Equity Challenge

The 21 Week Equity Challenge is adapted from the work of Debby Irving, racial justice educator and writer, and  Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr., Director of the Privilege Institute in Green Bay, WI.  Ms. Irving and Dr. Moore designed the challenge to not only help people better understand the issues surrounding equity and inclusion, but to do so in a way that would build a long-lasting habit of learning by stretching it over 21 days.

Participants engage with a topic throughout the week, revisiting the questions and taking time to engage with the materials.  The learning sessions have all been saved to the website so you can start your journey at any time.  This challenge offers an opportunity to learn and expand your thought process. There may be media outlets, celebrities, reporters and sources you don’t typically connect to or agree with, but that is part of the challenge. Remember to begin with an open mind and willingness to explore.
