gener8tor Upskilling

New North partnered with Microsoft, gener8tor, Thrivent Foundation, and American Family Insurance Foundation to provide the first in the nation opportunity to get people trained in digital customer service and sales, giving priority to those who were un/underemployed as a result of the pandemic.

Background:

COVID-19 has created a global economic crisis, forcing tens of millions of people around the world out of work. Some of the jobs lost will not come back, or at least not fast enough to meet demand. Those that do come back will look different, requiring more digital skills as companies race to change the way they work to respond to and recover from the pandemic. Other jobs will become more “tech-enabled,” requiring job seekers to have some level of digital fluency to be able to successfully pursue them. Microsoft announced an opportunity for people to upskill  in 10 career paths of in-demand jobs for free – learn more here. The learning modules are the core of the online gener8tor Upskilling program.

Opportunity:

Our world is becoming more and more dependent on technology. Organizations need employees with up-to-date skills. In the post-COVID world, all people–especially those from the hardest hit industries and the most vulnerable communities–will need to learn new skills to rejoin the workforce prepared for technical and tech-enabled roles that will be in even greater demand going forward. Together, we can help ensure people who are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic have the skills they need to pursue the jobs of today and tomorrow.

LinkedIn’s CEO Ryan Roslansky wrote on how learners around the world are using this time to get new skills including through gener8tor Upskilling. He highlighted our participant David Robles
